Xenyx 1204usb Driver For Mac
Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to connect this thing for a long time now, was wondering if anyone has connected a xenyx to ableton in mac os. I am either told to get asio drivers for mac (which I can't find and don't understand) or people say that Core audio and mac's internal audio drivers are good enough. My mac will recognize sound from the mixer, but I don't know how to get ableton to recognize the mixer, and work with the sound. If anyone has any information that can be diluted so i will understand that would be awesome.
If anyone can give me a step by step instruction to set it up that would be even better. Cheers, Alex.
The Xenyx series are mixers. They are not audio interfaces. Mixers merge audio signals together.
So if you've got a microphone, plus a couple of other devices and you want their output combined so you can go to the same set of speakers (or something like that), that's where you'd use a mixer. An audio interface is a fancy word for 'soundcard.' Its purpose is to get sound signals in and out of a computer using a program like Live.
You'll need drivers for an audio interface (and Apple's Core Audio will work out of the box with many of them). If you've already got, as you said, your mac 'recognizing' sound from the mixer, I presume that means that you've connected the mixer output to your mac's inputs. No further setup is necessary - now you can have several different devices plugged into your Xenyx, and the combined output can be recorded into something like Live. You can use the preamps on the mixer to bring a microphone up to a listenable level for Live to record with. But Live will not recognize the mixer, nor any of the controls or separate channels on the mixer, because the mixer isn't handling digital data - just pure audio signals. You can also use it the other way around: you can connect the OUTPUT of Live, from your mac, to one of the inputs on the Xenyx. Now you can combine Live's output with some other device (drum machine?
Microphone?) and go out to the same set of speakers. I know this is a lot of words, but hopefully it was some help to you! Post if you have any questions and someone can help you out. Best of luck and enjoy your new equipment.
If I were to use this in GarageBand, How many channels would show under Input Sources? Example: In the mixer: Channel 1 - Guitar Channel 2 - Vocals Channel 3 - Bass etc. In GarageBand, would it show up as: Mono/Stereo 1 Guitar Mono/Stereo 2 Vocals Mono/Stereo 3 Bass etc.? I'm very interested in this product and would like to know if each channel shows up in GarageBand as its own track instead of every channel on one track?
Note: The Download button takes you to the vendor's site, where you can download the latest version of the software. Gmvault is open-source, and the project accepts donations. Gmvault alternatives for mac.
If you can help, it'd be greatly appreciated. If you know any mixer/interfaces or just interfaces with multiple inputs that have their own tracks in Garageband etc, definitely let me know! Hello, Yes it would because the above device is also an interface. If it were just a mixer, you'd have to hook up a line-in into your Mac and it would be only two channels (LR). For recording I would recommend this though: If you have a firewire port and can afford it, it's the best. It has 8 (phantom) mic and jack inputs, compared to the above product's 4, and the pre-amps sound amazing.

I would also recommend you switch to Logic, at least Express for this kind of multitrack recording. It's worlds apart from GarageBand. Thanks for replying! I would get the Presonus but I can only pretty much afford anything from $200 and under at the moment. Plus, I record my friends' bands all the time, I go to their houses and what not so I need something I can carry unlike a rack unit such as the Presonus.

I believe I have a firewire port, I have a Mac 2009 (10.5.8) Is there a difference between firewire and usb though? And as of using Logic, I think I used it before. I tried a variety of programs, but Garageband is quite easy for me to use for now. I hope to use Logic in the future though and learn it more. Other than that, do you think I should settle for the Behringer mixer/interface or do you think there is a better one out there somewhere? And so that I know for the future, ALL interfaces' channels each have their own assigned tracks on the computer?
