Is there a way to set CAM mode in the linux driver? There is no commandline option to do that. In Windows it seems to solve the problem, but I will do more testing.
And Alejandro, yes, I use hwcrypto=0 already. PS: for some reason, I can't get a debug log, but I'll try later on. I'd be surprised if the new firmware makes a difference (but it would be nice if it did!). I'd be very interested in the debug log contents. If problems persist with 1.0.7, could you create a bug report at , and put me as a CC?
You've done a great job isolating the aggravating conditions, and comparing with XP. All of that info would be helpful in the bug report.

So I tried to upgrade (installed ieee80211- and ipw2200-modules downloaded from sourceforge). I don't quite remember how i managed to fix all the IRQ problems i had.
I assume you also have to boot with parameter noapic or acpi=nopci or pci=noacpi. I have a kernel patch that makes that not being needeed anymore, and that makes possible the use of the IOAPIC which makes IRQs route better. Any idea how can I get this NIC working? I have other NICs from other vendators working without any problem. Thanks in advance for your time and help.
Before giving you high hopes: I don't have a solution, but I'm replying merely to let you know that you're apparently experiencing the same kind of problems I've reported recently: TXPOWER was reported explictly, as was the RF Kill problem. On the other hand, a colleague of mine (and also a member of this mailing list) has an Acer 2012-WLCI (say, an Acer from the 2010 series), and his 2200BG NIC is running perfectly well. It looks like there's something the matter with the RF kill busisness in the newer series, but as yet I have no idea what it is.
So, I'll keep working on it, and once I have something new I'll certainly report it on this list, but for now I'm still in the dark. One additional point: on this list I've seen suggestions to use the 2.6.12.6 kernel rather than the newer kernels. I tried, and failed. Up to now I tried the 2.6.12.6, 2.6.13.1 and 2.6.14-rc1 kernels.
With none of them I got the NIC up and running. Kind regards, - Frank B. Brokken Computing Center, University of Groningen (+31) 50 363 9281 Public PGP key: Key Fingerprint: 8E36 9FC4 1DAA FCDF 1A0D B19F DAC4 BE50 38C6 6170.

Well, the trace tells you the meaning, 'ignored' tells you that it should not be a fatal error, ie at least who made the Makefile took into account such error and decided it could be safely ignored. The NULL 'crypter is just that, no encryption at all, which is the default 'encryption' unless you go with either WEP, WPA. In which case the proper (non-NULL) algo would be registered.
